Volunteering for SIA

Build your network
Become an advocate for the import/export industry
Gain a new skillset
Grow your leadership skills
Personal and professional development

Did you know that SIA Conferences are developed and deployed by volunteers? All SIA conferences are the result of volunteers with a passion for the regulations devising topics, developing the agenda and identifying both industry and government speakers. Additionally, the handbooks available to members through the Enhanced Membership package such as the indispensable ITAR Exemptions Handbook and the Voluntary Disclosure Handbook are all products derived from SIA volunteers’ expertise lead by an SIA Board Member.

Are you unsure of what the time commitment would be? Do you have general questions about what volunteering looks like? Contact sia@siaed.org to be put in touch with a current board member who can answer your questions.

Meet a New SIA Board Member | Tamara Overton, Lockheed Martin Corporation | P&E Committee

Tamara sits on the Planning and Education Committee for SIA and is the Senior Manager of International Trade Compliance at Lockheed Martin’s Rotary and Mission Systems Training and Logistics Solutions division. She has a bachelor’s degree in legal studies from the University of Central Florida and spent the first 15 years of her career working as a paralegal at private law firms and large corporations.

Tamara fell into the Trade Compliance world as a result of a Consent Agreement. She was hired to manage the compliance for the two-year Consent Agreement and 15 years later she still hasn’t managed to leave! It’s definitely a job that keeps you on your toes.

Tamara has a passion for adventure and travel, often combining the two. Her most recent trips include diving in the Sea of Cortez, rock climbing in Colorado, and touring Ireland. She is looking forward to her next adventure in December – exploring Antarctica. When she’s not traveling or working, Tamara enjoys spending time with her 3 children and her 130lb dog Brutus.
