State DDTC Issues Updated Guidelines on Firearms and Ammunition
The U.S. Department of State’s Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (State/DDTC) has posted on its website an updated, nineteen-page Guidelines for the Permanent Export, Temporary Export, and Temporary Import of Firearms and Ammunition.
According to State/DDTC, the intent was to make the guidance more useful to help get the firearms and ammunition cases in and out of the review process quickly and help the applicants avoid RWAs. Previous guidance was dated; it intermingled the guidance for both electronic and paper submissions; and it was confusing. Also the review/rewrite provided State/DDTC the opportunity to add some additional tips to help speed the review. As for what is new, State/DDTC has streamlined the guidance. It eliminated many of the redundant paragraphs, added some guidance related to Congressional Notifications, added the hyperlinks to the forms and added a handy, dandy checklist for industry.
